These guys disappeared for 15 years, and thankfully they are back. Redd Kross share the title track to their forthcoming album "Researching the Blues," which is very tasty. It's kind of reminiscent to some of the tracks on the first Grinderman album. Dirty rock stomp action.
We're not sure when the new Modest Mouse album will be out, but they did a new track this weekend called "Heart of Mine." It's a fan video that was shot at the California Revival Frost festival, which took place down the road in Palo Alto at Stanford University. Take a look below.
Get yourself primed for Best Coast's Fox Theater show in Oakland on May 19th with their new album streaming now. The sophomore release finds Jon Brion, who's worked with just about everybody producing, and adding a little more shine to the tracks, compared to the bands first release.
While you are at it, you might as well go for the highly anticipated Beach House record too. Dream pop at it's finest with their 4th album Bloom. Both come out May 15th. Hear that here.
How long has it been since you've seen a show that lingered with you for days after? Well, I did have that show in 1987 at Shoreline Amphitheater. It was Europe...yeah "The Final Countdown" and Def Leppard at their "Pour Some Sugar on Me" prime. That I remember for different reasons. I went deaf (no pun intended) for 3 1/2 days straight.
This Arctic Monkeys/Black Keys show at Power Balance Pavilion however still lingers because it was incredible. All of the Alex Turner wit, arrow pointing, "Sacramento's" and energy of Arctic Monkeys set I thought would be a challenge to match. Well, The Black Keys did that repeatedly, in the nastiest, "we'll show you rock and roll isn't dead" way possible.
When you not only have built a great catalog, but you also match it with intensity and musicianship-doesn't matter if it's four people or the original two, it packs a punch. The crowd was into it and gave back what the Keys gave them. They knew "Thickfreakness" and "I'll Be Your Man," not just the last two albums of radio friendly material. Although the last two records dominated the set.
Hey, and speeding up the originals, adding in extensive jams, and having a canvas of nice visuals certainly didn't hurt. These guys are for real now, as they were before, but this time everybody is being blown away. It makes you wonder how long it may take before they save rock and roll all by themselves.
Here's the final song of the evening-"I Got Mine." Note the Black Keys sign in lights that comes on. It was the first time they turned it on all night, and of course, the place went nuts.
They just played a sold out Ace of Spades show in Sacramento last night, and no comes the full stream of Silversun Pickups new album, "Neck of the Woods." Jacknife Lee who has worked with many artists including R.E.M. and Pearl Jam produces. Look for it next Tuesday, May 8th.
Bruce Springsteen's buddies, Gaslight Anthem are back with the sound that mirrors the boss, with a new track called "45." A good, driving rocker that will be a part of the new record Handwritten due July 24th on Mercury Records. Take a listen. via RS
Metric have delivered their new single, "Youth Without Youth" not only as a stream, but with commentary from Emily Haines and Jimmy Shaw, and how the song was put together. It's off of the forthcoming album SYNTHETICA which will be out June 12th. Look for the digital download of this track tomorrow. Hear it here.
